Vaping ‘Far Safer’ Than Cigarettes

A long-term study into the effects of vaping on the health of ex smokers has found that vaping is far safer than tobacco cigarettes. The study looked at individuals six months after replacing smoking tobacco cigarettes for vaping, and found that the vapers had far fewer toxins and cancer causing substances than smokers. For example, one chemical highly associated with lung cancer, was found to be at 97% lower levels in the vapers than in the smokers.

Reassurance

Experts hope this study will provide reassurance to smokers who have wanted to quit but been told incorrect information from people regarding the safety of electronic cigarettes.

Motivation for Part-Time Vapers

The study did also show that vapers who had not fully stopped smoking also had higher levels of toxins from the tobacco in their saliva and urine. This will hopefully motivate any part-time vapers into committing more to vaping. Far Safer

Dr Lion Shahab, from University College London, who carried out the recent study confirmed that “Our study adds to existing evidence showing that e-cigarettes and NRT are far safer than smoking, and suggests that there is a very low risk associated with their long-term use. Our results also suggest that while e-cigarettes are not only safer, the amount of nicotine they provide is not noticeably different to conventional cigarettes. This can help people to stop smoking altogether by dealing with their cravings in a safer way.”
